Babel 50 Annecy is a photographic totem of monumental dimensions. Creator of dreamlike universes, Jean-François Rauzier reinterprets the city and offers us three visions of Annecy through eras and architectural styles. Built on the station square, the installation takes us on a journey of rediscovery of urban space, under the prism of a captivating architectural kaleidoscope.

Juxtaposing thousands of photos taken with a telephoto lens, the artist presents an immersive and interactive installation. By combining the infinitely large and the infinitely small, he multiplies the exciting and unusual details while offering the viewer the leisure to linger on them. With this real digital puzzle, the architecture of the city is revealed in three aspects: the buildings around the Thiou canal, the architecture of the 1930s and the rest of the city. The experience is enriched by flashing a QR code, with which the public can immerse themselves in the smallest details of the photos and discover historical anecdotes about each building. An invitation to reflect on the place of man in the city, a journey through the alleys of this Annecy Tower of Babel.

Born in 1952, the French visual photographer Jean-François Rauzier lives and works in Paris (France). A precursor of digital assembly, he invented the concept of Hyperphoto in 2002 and found the culmination of his approach there. In large format photographs, he assembles thousands of shots taken with a telephoto lens to compose different dreamlike universes from existing places. His work is exhibited in France and around the world (New York, London, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Istanbul) and is present in major contemporary art collections such as the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris.
