The Cultures Urbaines collective highlights the issue of agriculture in the city and creates a vegetable garden in the heart of Annecy. Circular in shape, it favors plant diversity and old varieties. Ripe fruits and vegetables are at disposal! And the highlight of the experience: a tasting table allowing discussions and moments of sharing.
Designed like a mandala according to the principles of the Indo-Tibetan tradition, this garden of edible plants conveys the idea that the vegetable garden must conquer free urban spaces to make the city fertile. Producing in the city also means encouraging exchanges between residents and raising awareness among city dwellers about the issues of food autonomy and product quality. In addition to its exotic architecture, this vegetable garden invites walkers to get lost in the paths to discover a great diversity of plants; All you have to do is reach out and add basil, coriander or even chives to your tomato salad…
-> Sustainable harvesting = shared harvest
-> Pick fruits and vegetables when ripe
-> On-site consumption to be preferred
It was in 2016, as part of the Chaumont-sur-Loire International Garden Festival, that the Urban Cultures collective came to life.
Guillaume Popineau worked as a landscape engineer for three years in a Parisian landscape agency before leaving for North America to discover alternative production systems in the city. Trained in permaculture, he moved to Bordeaux in 2016 and created AKEBIA.
Landscape engineer, graduate of the Angers National Institute of Horticulture and Landscape, David Trigolet created an urban agriculture and edible landscaping company in Angers in 2015: POTAG’HOME.
